How DrKnows Selects the Care Providers that Participate in the DrKnows Network

I would like to introduce you to DrKnows.com, an inspired resource dedicated to helping families and healthcare professionals find qualified home care and residential care for patients requiring the assistance of a care provider.   With a growing and aging population in the United States and around the world, there has also been a growing need for home care options and residential care for those in need.  DrKnows.com offers a growing database of detailed profiles featuring residential care facilities, memory care, board and care, adult day programs, home care agencies, and independent care providers.  Additionally, DrKnows.com offers extensive articles detailing diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis for many common medical conditions along with patient safety recommendations and online support for caregivers.

We fully understand and appreciate the common goal of ensuring that when a family is matched with a care provider that the match is appropriate for both parties and that families are referred to reliable, trustworthy, and competent care providers.  At DrKnows.com, we are dedicated to making sure that each care seeker is introduced to an excellent and qualified care provider.  In many states, there are no licensing requirements for independent care providers and sometimes even for home care agencies and residential care facilities.  To assist families in making informed decisions, I believe that presenting a vast array of choices will afford care seekers the opportunity to identify the best possible options to meet their unique needs.  DrKnows.com allows families to choose from many different home care agencies, residential care facilities, and independent care providers.

In most instances, families have limited resources available for hiring a care provider, and American society has not yet invested sufficient resources towards addressing this growing problem.  At DrKnows.com, we have a number of ideas and goals for improving access to trustworthy, reliable, and competent care, and we really need your support as we strive to meet these common goals.  DrKnows.com hopes that all states will eventually require licensing and certification of care providers, but we also understand that these requirements may increase the cost of care, and impact availability of care.

Presently, DrKnows.com offers patients and families access to all different types of home care and residential care, but we do not refer for skilled nursing services.  DrKnows.com vets each care provider, agency, and residential facility before these partners can be included in the DrKnows.com referral network.  Our process of evaluating care providers is different depending on the type of services offered.  In all cases, whether a care seeker is referred to an independent care provider, home care agency, or a residential care facility, DrKnows.com has interviewed and evaluated the care provider as much as possible, and DrKnows.com facilitates the communication between care seeker and care provider.  Further, DrKnows.com emphasizes that care seekers should always thoroughly evaluate the care providers, including interviewing the care providers and performing a criminal and financial background check.  Whenever possible, DrKnows.com attempts to refer patients and families to a minimum of 3 different care providers.

DrKnows.com does not employ care providers, rather we help families locate the appropriate options for care in their communities.  While we attempt to vet care providers as much as possible to ensure the caregivers are adequately trained, reliable, and ethical, DrKnows.com does not manage or supervise care providers.  DrKnows.com strongly recommends that care seekers thoroughly interview and evaluate any care provider or business that is being considered for hire, including performing any appropriate criminal and financial background checks, employment interviews, tours of facilities, and communication with references (including current and former clients and employers).
